The UK Ministry of Justice has been working on an AI Murder Prediction program that uses algorithms to predict who is most likely to become a killer.
Documents revealed in Freedom of Information requests show that the program aims to review offender characteristics and explore alternative data science techniques for risk assessment of homicide.
The program is being criticized due to the use of data from ordinary citizens and concerns about the potential targeting of minority communities.
Researcher Sofia Lyall called the project 'chilling' and 'dystopian' and raised concerns about the sensitive data being used in the profiling process.
