United Way, in collaboration with funders like the Freedom Together Foundation, launched The Courage Project, a $5 million initiative to provide grants of up to $50,000 to nonprofits and community advocates.
The award program is designed to recognize individuals and organizations advocating for their communities, with the first recipients including nonprofits such as the United Way of South Sarasota County and Women of Welcome.
Awardees like Bri Stensrud from Women of Welcome expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the challenges in securing funding for immigration-related efforts and the importance of the grant in supporting their work.
Educators from upstate New York were also honored for their courageous actions in helping release detained students, receiving $50,000 to allocate to a nonprofit of their choice, emphasizing the strategic impact of recognition in motivating positive actions.
