<ul><li>Volkswagen will be replacing the first-generation Amarok with a new ute 'from South America, for South America'.</li><li>The new ute will be based on the Maxus Interstellar X from Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor, also known as LDV Terron 9 and MG U9.</li><li>Volkswagen is investing US$580 million in production technology and infrastructure for the new ute, which is specifically developed for the South American market.</li><li>The new ute's platform can support traditional combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains.</li></ul>
