A college professor wrote to Ask a Manager seeking advice on whether to correct students who address her as Mrs. instead of Dr. or Ms.
Following the suggestions received, she clearly explained her preferred title at the beginning of the semester and included a blog post on how to address women in the workplace.
Although she initially received a 'Dear Mrs. Green' email, the use of Dr. Green has significantly increased, Mrs. is almost disappeared, and Ms. is used rarely.
The professor attributes this change to her clear communication, her role as department chair, and the cooperative nature of her current class.
