The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed rules for reporting and transparency of self-driving vehicle incidents.
The proposal, called AV STEP (ADS-equipped Vehicle Safety, Transparency, and Evaluation Program), aims to create a voluntary national framework for automated driving systems.
AV STEP would increase transparency and provide more data on self-driving vehicles, and offer increased regulatory flexibility for companies aiming to launch commercial services.
The NHTSA has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking and welcomes public comments on the program.
