The US Department of Commerce has introduced a new rule to make it easier for Middle East data centres to obtain key AI chip technology.
Under the rule, data centres in the Middle East can apply for Validated End User status, allowing US tech companies to sell advanced chips to them under a general authorisation.
This move is aimed at facilitating AI chip shipments to the Middle East and cutting off the supply of advanced technologies to China.
The rule includes a review process, reporting requirements, and on-site inspections to ensure security and prevent diversion or misuse of US technology.
