The US and UAE are collaborating to build the largest data center complex outside the US in Abu Dhabi to establish the UAE as a global AI power.
Initiated with a 1GW data center using Nvidia's AI accelerator chips, the campus is planned to cover 10 square miles and will be constructed by UAE's G42 with 5GW of power.
OpenAI is expected to be one of the campus' anchor tenants, with the deal aimed at bringing cutting-edge AI technology to countries sharing democratic values and countering China's influence.
The agreement includes stringent measures to control advanced chips, a concession to critics opposing the relaxation of AI export rules and concerns about Chinese access to AI technology.
