Google will roll out a mandatory software update for Pixel 6a devices starting July 8 to prevent battery overheating on identified Impacted Devices.
The update aims to reduce battery-related issues following reports of Pixel 6a phones catching fire; Google will automatically reduce battery capacity on affected phones after 400 charges.
Users with impacted devices will receive a warning at 375 charging cycles to indicate the new battery protection system activation.
Some Pixel 6a users may experience shorter battery life, slower charging, and unusual battery indicator readings after the update; Google is offering free battery replacements for affected devices.
