Venmo, owned by PayPal, is expanding its platform to offer more consumer commerce options beyond peer-to-peer transfers.
The upgrades include better rewards for Venmo Debit Mastercard users, increased checkout options at major retailers, and a new brand campaign to position Venmo as a full-service commerce platform.
Venmo is aiming to compete with Cash App in the fintech space, as it currently has a smaller debit card penetration and transaction volume compared to its rival.
The company has seen growth in revenue, payment volume, and active users, and is focusing on monetizing acquisitions like Braintree and expanding its merchant network to drive user adoption.
