Apple clarifies that warning messages next to EU App Store listings are not new and have been in place since the beginning of Apple's DMA Compliance Plan in March 2024.
The warnings, indicating the use of third-party payment systems, were not added recently and are not a retaliation following the court decision against Apple in the Epic Games case.
Confusion arose from a social media post implying recent enforcement by Apple, which gained attention and led to various opinions within the developer community.
Apple disclosed that the warnings are only for EU users and mentioned plans to update the message to clarify payment transactions, following a fine of €500 million from the European Commission for noncompliance under the Digital Markets Act.
