Vizhinjam Terminal is planning to implement a Shore Tension System to handle monsoon waves better by purchasing equipment from agencies in the Netherlands.
The system aims to improve ship handling and productivity during adverse weather conditions, particularly during the first monsoon season since the terminal began operations in December 2024.
The terminal experienced a drop in monthly throughput during the monsoon month of June, but still surpassed the targets set in the concession agreement due to advanced technologies. July throughput is expected to exceed 100,000 TEUs.
The Shore Tension System ensures safer mooring of sea vessels in strong winds and suction, enhancing vessel stability at the terminal. Experts highlight the challenges posed by strong winds and ocean currents during the monsoon and emphasize the importance of such systems for sea-facing ports.
