Action Fraud has issued a warning about scammers using WhatsApp to target individuals with 'friend in need' scams and fake government messages.
Scammers are attempting to trick people by claiming to be a relative or loved one in need of financial assistance.
In addition, scammers are also sending messages claiming to be from the Department for Work and Pensions, offering a 'living subsidy' with a link to apply.
Citizens Advice estimates that nine million people in the UK have fallen victim to financial scams, with common ones including fake pensions, investment scams, and fake debt advice.
