Waymo is bringing its autonomous vehicles to Tokyo for its first international "road trip" in partnership with Nihan Kotsu and GO.
The first all-electric Jaguar I-PACEs for Waymo will arrive in Tokyo in early 2025, with Nihon Kotsu overseeing the management and servicing of the vehicles.
Initially, Nihon Kotsu drivers will operate the vehicles manually to map key areas of Tokyo, allowing the Waymo Driver to learn and adapt to left-hand traffic and new driving nuances.
Waymo's expansion into Japan aligns with the country's goals for transportation and the company is engaging with local officials to ensure a responsible implementation of self-driving cars.
