Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that the decision to eliminate 27,000 corporate roles was difficult and the company will continue to evaluate their business.
Amazon reported a strong March quarter result with worldwide net sales of $127.4 billion, up 9% YoY, and $3.2 billion in overall net income.
The company saw a surge in its advertising services revenue with a 23% YoY increase.
The new round of Amazon layoffs has reportedly started in the Cloud Services division, with employees in the US, Costa Rica, and Canada being notified of their job terminations.
