The Met Office has switched to a new supercomputer, using 50 billion observations a day to improve weather forecasts.The new supercomputer is massive, dealing with 200 to 300 terabytes of data daily and enabling longer range predictions for severe weather events.In the 'near future', the new technology could make 14-day forecasts almost as accurate as seven-day forecasts, enhancing climate research worldwide.The Met Office aims to develop new products and services with the supercomputer, including the use of AI for weather analysis and prediction.
