WHO calls for a ban on flavoured tobacco and nicotine products, citing that flavours like menthol, bubble gum, and cotton candy mask the harshness of these products.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, emphasized that banning flavours is crucial to combat a new wave of addiction and to prevent the continued global tobacco epidemic.
Currently, more than 50 countries have banned flavoured tobacco, with additional restrictions on e-cigarettes and disposables; however, flavour accessories remain largely unregulated.
The WHO highlighted that flavoured products attract young users, increasing addiction risks, and emphasized the need for strict regulation due to the exposure to cancer-causing chemicals.
