<ul><li>The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency, three years after it was first announced as such.</li><li>The virus will continue to be a public health threat and have a pandemic status like HIV.</li><li>WHO director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that the virus is here to stay and new variants may emerge, causing new surges in cases and deaths.</li><li>Countries are urged to transition from emergency mode to managing Covid-19 alongside other infectious diseases and take structured long-term strategies in public health.</li></ul>
