Cluely, an AI startup known for its undetectable feature allowing users to 'cheat on everything,' was co-founded by Roy Lee who was suspended from Columbia University for using Cluely to cheat on a coding test.
A Columbia University student named Patrick Shen launched Truely, an 'anti-Cluely' product to catch cheaters using unauthorized applications during online meetings, which Lee acknowledged without concern about detection.
Despite Truely's launch, Lee stated that Cluely's invisibility feature is not a core function and many enterprises disable it due to legal concerns. Cluely shifted its marketing away from promoting cheating after securing a $15 million investment.
Cluely's marketing strategy has been criticized as 'rage-bait marketing,' with Lee aiming for Cluely to replace ChatGPT by offering similar functions while also accessing screen and audio data.
