Threads users have noticed strange posts from people looking for 'friends' appearing in their recommendations, alongside the usual algorithmically curated content on the app.
The posts feature selfies of purportedly 18-year-old individuals seeking companionship, with some users posting the same content multiple times, possibly indicating a spam campaign.
Despite an increase in spam attacks on Threads, Meta has not explained why these posts are being recommended as 'related' content or why they appear so frequently in suggestions, even though they claim spam should not be featured.
Similar spammy posts have been observed in other Meta-owned apps like Instagram, raising concerns among users about the prevalence of such content and the effectiveness of moderation efforts.
