Suction mining in the Peruvian Amazon region has led to land inability to hold water, hampering reforestation efforts. The method of suction mining dries out the ground, making it inhospitable for new trees to grow.Research conducted using drones and soil sensors showed that the topsoil is washed away, leaving behind stagnant ponds and sand piles. To address the issue, scientists recommend reshaping the land to hold moisture and support new growth, as simply planting trees is not enough.
