Microsoft confirms a bug in the Windows 11 24H2 update that causes audio spike to maximum volume without warning.
The issue primarily affects gaming PCs using Windows 11, version 24H2, with external USB digital audio converters like Creative Sound BlasterX G6.
Actions that trigger the problem include using the Creative Sound BlasterX G6 USB DAC, putting the gaming system to sleep and waking it, and attaching/detaching the external sound system.
Microsoft has identified the root cause as a timing problem in the AudioEndpointBuilder service and is working on a resolution.
