Some PC gamers woke up to Windows Defender alert flagging a 'HackTool' called WinRing0 as a threat.
Windows Defender had triggered alarms in PC monitoring and fan control apps, causing some computers to behave oddly, such as running fans at high speed.
The threat was detected in various apps, including Fan Control, Razer Synapse, SteelSeries Engine, and MSI Afterburner.
All third-party/open-source hardware monitoring software was affected due to a common piece of kernel-level software, causing their functionality to be impaired.
