Wipro Enterprises has shut down its manufacturing unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, resulting in layoffs of about 80 employees.
The decision to close the factory was made after months of labour unrest and a workers' strike that started in December 2024.
The closure was due to operational disruptions, financial losses, and economic unsustainability, leading to failed negotiations with the workers' union.
While the company will provide compensation to the affected workers, the layoffs have caused protests in the region and complaints to the state authorities.
