Women-led startups in India have seen significant growth over the past five years, with their share increasing from 10% of the total in 2017 to 18% in 2022, according to the WISER's Women in India's Startup Ecosystem Report.
The number of Indian startups has surged from approximately 6,000 in 2017 to 80,000 in 2022, and during this period, the number of women-led unicorns (startups valued at over $1 billion) has also increased from 8% to 17%.
Funding for Indian startups by venture capitalists (VCs) has risen from $5.9 billion in 2017 to $21.9 billion in 2022. The share of funding directed towards women-led startups has increased from 11% to 20% during this time.
