Women-led startups rise to 18% in past five years: Report

  • Women-led startups in India have seen significant growth over the past five years, with their share increasing from 10% of the total in 2017 to 18% in 2022, according to the WISER's Women in India's Startup Ecosystem Report.
  • The number of Indian startups has surged from approximately 6,000 in 2017 to 80,000 in 2022, and during this period, the number of women-led unicorns (startups valued at over $1 billion) has also increased from 8% to 17%.
  • Funding for Indian startups by venture capitalists (VCs) has risen from $5.9 billion in 2017 to $21.9 billion in 2022. The share of funding directed towards women-led startups has increased from 11% to 20% during this time.
