A director of engineering at Johnson & Johnson, Michael J. Menard, was once told his heated arguments end with him wanting to destroy his opponent.
His boss suggested he see Gert, a psychologist and assertiveness trainer. The six weeks of training alongside her was invaluable.
Ms Gert provided Mr Menard with a series of workshops and lessons that blended with his father's teachings which taught him to never stop until his opponent was on the ground.
Gert’s training and coaching made Mr Menard an even stronger fighter as words replaced his fists.
Assertiveness training became the most impactful education of all the classes he took from Johnson & Johnson during his twenty-five-year career.
Mr Menard later helped Gert to develop a three-day class approved by Johnson & Johnson University, which became mandatory for 200 engineers in his department.
The course became so popular that a second program named 'Assertiveness Training for Women' was created, and the classes were taught onsite at Johnson & Johnson headquarters twice a year.
This program has helped Mr Menard to become a stronger fighter, not using his fists but instead his words.
Gert's training not only helped with his communication skills but also enabled him to become a better supervisor and manage his career, and life as a whole.
Assertiveness training helped Mr Menard transform his style of managing conflicts and made him a more effective communicator.
