Maharashtra government plans to start work on the country’s first offshore airport in Vadhavan near Mumbai in 2026.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is developing a deep draft port in Vadhavan, located 140 kilometers north of Mumbai, alongside the proposed airport.
A pre-feasibility study for the offshore airport is currently in progress, with the report expected in three months.
The Maharashtra government aims to enhance aviation infrastructure across the state, with plans to upgrade existing facilities and build new airports, including in districts like Gadchiroli and for Pune’s second airport in Purandar facing land acquisition challenges.
