World Of Tanks creators reveal Steel Hunters, which isn't quite World Of Mechs

  • Wargaming has announced a new free-to-play Unreal Engine multiplayer shooter called Steel Hunters.
  • It features Transformers-style juggernauts battling for control of an energy source called Starfall on post-apocalyptic maps.
  • The game combines elements of hero shooter, battle royale and extraction shooter.
  • The game has a core Starfall Harvest mode that involves six squads of two fighting to claim towers on rolling town-and-country maps.
  • It also includes fleets of flying drones which can be farmed for upgrade materials.
  • Besides enemy hunters, players also have to worry about an endgame, in which squads must capture and hold a single extraction point, or eliminate all the other teams.
  • Wargaming's unique approach to co-op teamwork is called 'duo symbiosis'.
  • The game will use a season pass format for monetisation, similar to World of Tanks.
  • Everything in each season will be free - paintjobs, emotes, new hunters, skins - providing you’re willing to grind for it.
  • Steel Hunters is set to launch in beta next year.
