Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Khandu expressed grave concern over China's construction of the world's largest dam project on the Yarlung Tsangpo river, also known as Brahmaputra.
Khandu highlighted that China not being a signatory to international water treaties raises fears of the country using the dam as a 'water bomb' to jeopardize Indian tribes and livelihoods.
The Yarlung Tsangpo dam, a USD 137 billion five-year project, is set to produce 60,000 MW of power and could impact the flow of water downstream in India, particularly in the Siang belt.
In response, the Arunachal Pradesh government is planning the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project to enhance water security and defense mechanisms against potential consequences of the Chinese dam.
