The car known as the 'worst car in history,' the Yugo, is making a comeback after its global discontinuation about 17 years ago and its departure from the U.S. market in the 1990s.
Despite being labeled as poorly engineered and ugly, the retro feel of the Zastava Yugo is gaining popularity, transitioning to a cult status for its Eastern European bargain-basement roots.
Originally launched 45 years ago based on Fiat technology, the Yugo enjoyed success in the domestic market and gained respect when exported, only to later decline due in part to the Yugoslavia War.
The Yugo brand seems to be making a return with a new model unveiled in May 2025, showing promise for production under the ownership of Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Bjelić, potentially introducing an electric version and further details expected in September.
