Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu criticized "elite India" for its English language obsession, stating that employees at his company do not need to be fluent in English.
Vembu's comments come in response to trolling of Assam's CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was called a "copy-paste CM" after a video of him filling details in a visitor's book went viral.
Vembu tweeted that the bias that people who do not speak fluent English are stupid is prevalent among the "elite India," and progress can only be made when this bias is eliminated.
According to Vembu, Zoho does not require English fluency for most jobs, and he believes that this will help more people get access to employment opportunities.
