2.25 lakh mobile numbers deactivated in Bihar and Jharkhand for non-compliance

  • The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has deactivated over 2.25 lakh mobile numbers in Bihar and Jharkhand in April for allegedly being procured through illegal means.
  • The Telecom Service Providers have blacklisted 517 Point of Sales (PoS) for issuing SIM cards through unethical and illegal practices.
  • DoT's artificial intelligence and facial recognition solution for telecom SIM Subscriber Verification (ASTR) analysis has been used to share intelligence with state police to take suitable action against SIM fraudsters.
