Apple has launched CarPlay Ultra, previously known as the next-generation CarPlay, initially available in new Aston Martin vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.
The integration of CarPlay Ultra offers a deeper and fuller experience spread across various screens in the car, including the instrument cluster, accessible with iPhone 12 or newer devices running iOS 18.5 or later.
Apple has combined touchscreen functionality with physical controls like steering wheel buttons and voice commands for climate and radio control, enhancing user experience.
While CarPlay Ultra appears to be a significant upgrade, its availability in mainstream vehicles remains uncertain, as automakers tend to be slow in adopting software integrations, especially in instrument clusters.
