Clever MacBook rig makes space with wall-mounted display [Setups]
- A clever and efficient MacBook setup has been shown to work well, despite requiring some serious DIY skills. The system is based around mounting a big smart TV on the wall along with a specially built pegboard to store relevant peripherals. Govee RGB lighting also adds an impressive backlit effect to the setup. Everything except the TV and PC were bought second-hand, saving the builder a lot of money.
- Using an MDF panel to mount the TV, Mechanical engineering student and builder Crazy-Neighborhood24 successfully wall-mounted the Samsung QN90B 43-inch TV and the wide range of equipment necessary to run such an impressive setup. Although there are some minor ergonomic concerns to be aware of, the space-saving solution is incredibly effective and functional.
- One useful feature of the MacBook setup is how versatile it is, offering an excellent experience for work and rest. The 4K display has Dolby Atmos and object tracking sound, and a motion accelerator, which makes gaming truly immersive.
- The multitasking abilities of the MacBook Pro are made evident in the setup, which includes a PS5 and Apple TV, giving an array of options for users to utilize. The PS5 is used for gaming with friends, while the MacBook is used for university work and the PC is used, primarily, for sim racing.
- The pegboard is an impressive feature, offering both functional storage and aesthetic appeal. It's an easy way to organize while remaining space-efficient and keeping everything within arm's reach.
- A commentor noted that the televisions would typically be eye-level if used as a computer monitor and was curious about the ergonomics of such a setup. The builder responded that this was, in fact, a consideration, but it made for a good compromise between entertainment and workspace options.
- Another comment questioned the redundancy in having equipment such as a PC and an Apple TV. The builder responded that they use the PC for sim racing, the MacBook for university work, and the PS5 for gaming with friends. The Apple TV provided separation and differentiation between play and work devices, and purchasing second-hand helped keep costs down.
- The built-in RGB lighting using a Govee HDMI sync box creates an enticing and dramatic lighting effect that adds depth to the display area.
