Astronomers have traced repeating radio bursts from space back to a red dwarf star and a white dwarf in a binary orbit.
These bursts were discovered in 2022 and have puzzled astronomers due to their slow repetition and their origin was unknown.
The discovery of a new source called GLEAM-X J0704-37, emitting minute-long pulses every 2.9 hours, helped in solving the mystery.
Observations from the MeerKAT telescope located the source as a red dwarf star, indicating a white dwarf in a binary orbit as the unseen radio emitter.
