Cboe US Options Volume Hits Record for 5th Consecutive Year

  • Cboe US Options Volume Hits Record for 5th Consecutive Year.
  • Cboe's global trading volumes for December 2024 and the full year show U.S. options on its four exchanges broke another 2024 record for total volume of 3.8bn contracts traded and an ADV of 14.95m, the fifth consecutive annual record.
  • Three key proprietary products also broke records: S&P 500 Index (SPX) options trading a total of 784.2m; the total number of Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) options traded hit 209.2m; and XSP (Mini-SPX) options set a new record, trading 17.6m contracts
  • Cboe Global Markets counted its fifth record-breaking year for US options, with total volume for 2024 reaching 3.8 billion contracts.
  • Included in the volume total were a number of record-breaking proprietary index options including the S&P 500 Index and CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) options.
  • In the fourth quarter, zero days to expiry trading in SPX comprised of 51% of overall SPX volumes, a quarterly record.
  • Cboe Global Markets has reported December and full-year trading volume statistics across its global business lines and laid out guidance for selected revenue per contract and net revenue capture metrics.
  • The ADNV was $45.4bn, up from last year's $43.6bn.
  • Global FX volumes for December 2024 were $43.1bn, up from November's $49.6bn but down from December 2023's $45.6bn.
