Co-op shut down parts of its IT system after detecting an attempted hack, following similar incident at Marks & Spencer.
Measures were taken to keep systems safe, resulting in shutdown of some business services including those for stores and legal services.
Despite the measures, all Co-op stores, funeral parlours, and services are operating as usual without asking customers to change any behavior.
The attempt comes as businesses like Co-op increasingly use technology to reduce costs and tackle issues like shoplifting, amidst rising cyber-attack incidents across the industry.
