Chinese automaker BYD announced fast charging times for its next-generation electric cars, with charging times as low as five minutes for 250 miles of range.
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging CEO, Andrew Cornelia, believes that five-minute charging may be overkill and that the industry is already closer to the optimal charging time of 10 to 12 minutes.
Cornelia emphasizes that the key is to make the charging time fit the activity people are doing, rather than aiming for the fastest possible charging all the time.
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging focuses on placing chargers at locations where drivers can engage in activities during the charging time, such as partnering with retailers like Starbucks and Buc-ee's.
