A Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer, Marko Elez, violated Treasury data-sharing policies by transmitting a spreadsheet containing personal data to others in the Trump administration.
The violation was discovered during a forensic analysis by the Treasury as part of a lawsuit brought by New York and other state attorneys general attempting to prevent DOGE from accessing sensitive payment information.
Concerns have been raised about DOGE's data security practices and potential disruptions to Treasury payment systems, which could have catastrophic consequences.
DOGE was also ordered to turn over records and answer questions about its work in cutting government spending.
