Mala Gaonkar launches the biggest women-led hedge fund in history

  • Mala Gaonkar's SurgoCap Partners began trading on Tuesday with $1.8 billion in assets. This was the the largest debut of a woman-led hedge fund in the industry’s history.
  • According to sources, SurgoCap will invest using data science to improve financials, industrials, health care, and corporate data.
  • The launch follows Divya Nettimi's Avala Global's debut in October, which began with more than $1 billion in committed cash.
  • After establishing themselves at bigger businesses, the two women attracted significant capital. Gaonkar, 53, worked at Lone Pine Capital for 23 years, while Nettimi spent seven years at Viking Global Investors.

  • Ashneer Grover, a former BharatPe co-founder & managing director, revealed that he made a cool 2.25 crore from the Zomato IPO within 8 minutes of its opening in July last year.
  • Grover stated in his memoir 'Doglapan' that he applied for shares worth ₹100 crore during Zomato's IPO, but he received an allotment of shares worth more than 3 crore.
  • He said that he became a little greedy post the Zomato IPO. "I went in for the Car Trade IPO but ended up losing ₹25 lakh there," he added.
