A new initiative called "EU OS" has been launched to develop a Linux-based operating system tailored for the public sector organizations of the European Union (EU).
EU OS builds upon a Linux foundation derived from Fedora, with the KDE Plasma desktop environment, aiming to create a standardized Linux distribution customizable for different EU organizations' needs.
By adopting an open-source model, EU OS enhances digital sovereignty, reduces dependency on external vendors, and offers flexibility in terms of software migration and hardware upgrades for the EU public sector.
While the choice of Fedora as the base has raised some concerns, EU OS marks a significant step towards Europe's digital independence, providing a more cost-effective, flexible, and secure ecosystem.
