The European Defence Agency (EDA) has launched a new research project called BATTAGE to monitor and predict the health of batteries in aircraft, focusing on structural Li-Ion/Po batteries.
The project aims to develop aircraft power systems for hybrid aircraft and UAVs, enabling longer lifespans, high performance, and reducing the risk of battery failure.
The objectives include designing sensor networks and battery management systems, implementing diagnostic algorithms, conducting realistic operating condition validations, and expanding the methodologies to full UAV component-level validation.
The project aims to lay the foundation for research applicable to both civil aeronautics and the automotive industry, with potential wide-ranging technological applications.
