Google Messages is introducing a new feature that allows users to mention other users in group chats, similar to the @mention format in other messaging platforms.
The feature, currently available in the beta version v20250511, enables users to use the '@' symbol followed by the name to mention someone in a group chat.
Recipients will see their name highlighted when mentioned, but the notification function for mentions is not operational in the beta version yet.
Other upcoming features expected in Google Messages include sending links or QR codes to invite new users to group chats and the ability to snooze notifications for different durations.
