General Motors (GM) is preventing a dealership from installing third-party Apple CarPlay upgrade kits in its EVs, with concerns over potential negative impacts on safety features and warranty issues.
GM had previously removed smartphone mirroring features, including Apple CarPlay, from its EVs, stating that this allowed EV-centric features to work better.
White Automotive and Media Services (WAMS) developed a kit to restore the phone mirroring features in Chevy and GMC EVs, but GM has now instructed the dealership offering the kit to stop.
WAMS has discontinued the product, and it is unclear whether GM will disable the already installed kits.
