Google Chrome is introducing a new feature to automatically replace weak passwords for improved security. This feature is part of Chrome's password manager and was announced at the Google I/O 2025 developers' conference.
When logging into a website, Chrome will check if the password is weak, compromised, or previously used. If so, Chrome will alert the user and with permission, generate a new secure password and input it on the site.
Automatic password replacement will initially be available on select websites and will require user permission before changing passwords. This feature aims to simplify the process of password management and increase online security.
Google plans to roll out this update later in 2025 starting with a limited number of supported websites, with the list expanding as more sites adopt this feature. This initiative is part of Google's efforts to enhance web security and protect users from online threats.
