SpaceX tried stalling Apple’s satellite expansion efforts by lobbying the FCC to block the launch of a new satellite constellation by Apple’s partner Globalstar.
Apple introduced satellite connectivity to the iPhone with the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022, partnering with Globalstar to provide emergency texting and other services when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
SpaceX, having access to more satellites than Apple, raised concerns about Globalstar's ability to satisfy Apple's satellite connectivity needs, leading to tensions and discussions between the companies.
In recent months, SpaceX and T-Mobile reached an agreement with Apple to offer the SpaceX and T-Mobile satellite cellphone service on newer iPhones, which will debut this summer.
