Apple continuously improves the steps needed to set up an iPhone. Certain tips and tricks can smooth the way. Here’s how to set up your new iPhone the right way.
The first thing you want to do when you go to set up your new iPhone is to back up the old one. This will make transferring your data to the new iPhone a lot easier.
The easiest way to set up a new iPhone is to use Apple’s Quick Start feature, which quickly transfers settings and apps from your old iPhone to your new one.
Like the new iPhone setup process, Face ID — Apple’s facial-recognition security feature — becomes better every year. Newer iPhones can check your face with a mask on or with the phone sitting horizontally.
You have a few different choices for how to move your data over during the new iPhone setup process. If this is your first smartphone, just tap Don’t Transfer Apps & Data.
If your old iPhone has been lost, stolen, shattered, exploded or is otherwise no longer of this world, you can tap Restore from iCloud Backup on your new iPhone. This option will set up your new iPhone exactly like your old phone.
The next step to set up your new iPhone is signing in with your Apple Account (formerly known as Apple ID). This will enable all the essential Apple services.
Make sure to turn on iMessage and FaceTime. Then enable Location Services, iCloud Keychain and Apple Pay. And don’t skip setting up Siri.
If this is your first iPhone, you might want some more guidance on getting comfortable after you’re all set up.
