Italian energy giant Eni has unveiled its new supercomputer, HPC6, which will be used to scale up its oil and gas discovery efforts and advance research in clean energy and decarbonization.
HPC6 is equipped with almost 14,000 integrated graphics processing units and will assist Eni in analyzing vast amounts of data related to exploration to identify new reservoirs and optimize drilling strategies.
Eni has previously used supercomputers to enhance geological surveys, improve carbon storage methods, optimize industrial plant operations, and design efficient batteries and biofuel supply chains.
Eni's CEO, Claudio Descalzi, believes that technological advancements are crucial in achieving energy transition goals and net-zero emissions.
