The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has discovered a grand-design spiral galaxy known as A2744-GDSp-z4.This galaxy is exceptionally old and challenges our understanding of galaxy formation. Most spiral galaxies are younger, but this galaxy formed when the universe was only about 1.5 billion years old.The researchers speculate that the presence of a stellar bar or the merger of two smaller galaxies may have contributed to its formation.
