Vinit Agarwal, the game director who was working on The Last Of Us Online multiplayer before its cancellation in December 2023, has left Naughty Dog and announced the launch of a new game studio in Japan.
Agarwal had been with Sony PlayStation for a decade, contributing to titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us, including the canceled Last Of Us Online live-service project. It's uncertain if his new game will be multiplayer or associated with Sony.
Druckmann is now the sole head of Naughty Dog after 19-year co-president Wells departed in 2023. The studio is currently working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Druckmann is focusing on this project instead of season three of The Last of Us TV show.
The cancellation of The Last Of Us Online in 2023 led Naughty Dog to prioritize single-player games exclusively. Agarwal, along with other key members, departed from the project, leaving Anthony Newman as the head of production at the studio.
