LG Energy Solution has established a new facility in Holland, Michigan, to produce LFP batteries at scale for energy storage systems.
The $1.4-billion plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 16.5 GWh and may employ up to 1,700 people.
LG Energy Solution will also produce NMC cells and modules for the Ford Mustang Mach-E at the Holland facility.
Tesla is close to completing its own LFP battery manufacturing facility near Gigafactory Nevada, with an initial focus on stationary storage products like Powerwall and Megapack.
